Dr Eve Worrall

Reader in Health Economics

Eve has worked in global health for more than 25 years with a career that spans research, consultancy and management roles in academia, philanthropy and the commercial sector. She has a background in pure economics and a PhD in health economics (LSTM/University of Liverpool, 2001).

She worked as a post-doctoral research fellow in the economics of malaria at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, before moving into a senior analyst role at New Philanthropy Capital. Eve then worked as Health Economics and Policy Advisory and Senior Technical Consultant at Liverpool Associates in Tropical Health (LATH, the consulting arm of LSTM) for five years, with an honorary appointment at LSTM, before moving into a senior management role specialising in the management of complex multi-partner research consortium.

She began to return to research activities in 2015, entered LSTMs career (tenure) track scheme in 2020, successfully completing the three-year targets in 20 months. She was promoted to Reader in November 2022.

Eve is an expert in the economic evaluation of public health interventions in low- and middle-income countries. She has led multiple evaluations in malaria, TB, neglected tropical diseases and more recently non-communicable diseases. She takes a health-systems, equity focussed approach to all her work. Eves other interests are in policy analysis and knowledge translation, where she seeks to understand how scientific evidence can best inform health policy and improve outcomes.

Eve chairs the LSTM institutional Athena Swan self-assessment committee and serves on LSTM’s Equity and Inclusion Committee. She successfully led LSTMs institutional Athena Swan application, making LSTM one of only 20 higher education institutes in the UK to hold this level of institutional award. In these roles and through her research, Eve strives to achieve equitable partnerships and to support people to achieve their career goals, with a particular focus on those who are underrepresented in public health.
