Molecular tools for insecticide resistance diagnosis in phlebotomine sandflies for sustainable leishmaniasis control and elimination programmes.

Wellcome Trust ISSF

Dr Mark Paine and Dr David Weetman

This ongoing ISSF-funded project links with work involved in assessment of indoor residual spraying (IRS) efficacy by the groups of Mark Paine and Mike Coleman, in partnership with Dr Pradeep Das, RMRI, Patna, India. The work involves identification of resistance mutations and genes using DNA and RNA sequencing and assessment of distribution in Bihar province.

An allied project is investigating how insecticide resistance mutations vary temporally and spatially in Bangladesh in relation to control and impacts on other phenotypes of medical importance.
