Aims and Objectives
The Emergency Obstetric and Quality of Care Unit has three main aims, aligned to LSTM's vision, mission and values:
- Identification of ways to improve quality of care and reduce maternal mortality/morbity by conducting operational research.
- Optimisation of impact by combining rigorous research with capacity strengthening and technical support.
- Ensure research is relevant to local needs and informs policy considerations by working in partnership with policy makers and local reserach leaders.
The intended outcomes of our work are:
- Save lives and reduce morbidity by providing technical assistance to programmes and research that contributes to the reduction of maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality in the countries where we work through capacity building of healthcare workers.
- Increase quality of service delivery in countries of operation by increasing the quality and availability of healthcare services (and the functionality of the health system).
- Contribute to policy development internationally on maternal and neonatal health, by gathering evidence, influencing and leading international debate, and, championing the use of evidence for what works where and how.
