The Reducing Maternal and Neonatal Deaths programme implemented in South Africa, aimed to train health care providers in Essential Steps in Managing Obstetric Emergencies (ESMOE) and Emergency Obstetric Simulation Training (EOST) packages.
Periodic health care facility surveys to assess the availability, utilization and quality of Emergency Obstetric Care were undertaken. This included assessment of availability of life saving emergency obstetric medicines and equipment.
