The LIGHT Consortium: Centre for Capacity Research Objectives
The LIGHT Consortium: (Leaving no-one behInd: transforming Gendered pathways to Health for TB) is a six-year cross-disciplinary global health research programme funded by UK aid. It is led by LSTM and works with partners in Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda and the UK.
LIGHT will deliver cross-disciplinary research across a consortium of partners to reduce the number of people affected by TB in sub-Saharan Africa. The research programme will enable and support global and national policy environments and health systems to improve sustainable, equitable access to quality TB services and medical products, to reduce TB mortality and morbidity. Through its work, LIGHT will generate new evidence, strengthen capacity, strategically engage with key stakeholders and monitor, evaluate, and share learning along the way.
Centre for Capacity Research Objectives
The goal of the Centre for Capacity Research’s input is to support the development of partners’ research management systems and practices to international best practice. Researchers from the Centre for Capacity Research will undertake structured assessments of partner institutions to identify strengths, weaknesses, and capacity needs, as well as any gaps and challenges in terms of research management, and actions will be agreed to address these. The Centre for Capacity Research will document the impact of the actions on partners’ research management systems and why/how they did or did not work, and will compare findings across all partners, to identify commonalities and make recommendations for improving research management systems in low- and middle-income countries.
