LSTM presented its inaugural Athena Swan Outstanding Contribution Award during the November session of the School Staff Forum.

Athena Swan self-assessment team member, Dr Emily Adams, handed out the award to winners Gala Garrod, Natalie Lissenden and Katherine Gleave.

Dr Adams said: “I am delighted to present the first Athena Swan Award to the three winners who have devoted so much of their time to organising the ‘Equality in science’ symposia. These are now an important date in the diary, with inspiring speakers and we hope it is starting to encourage and embed equity across LSTM.”

In addition, Dr Eve Worrall, Agnes Matope and Dr Lee Haines received special mention for their "focus on equity in the workplace, which has involved a huge commitment, as well as complicated negotiations, demonstrating courage to speak out and question the status quo. Their focus on fixed term contracts and analysing the gender pay gap is especially commended.“

The awardees were chosen out of 20 nominations in total by an independent panel consisting of one external member, a member of LSTM’s Athena Swan self-assessment team and a LSTM staff member.

LSTM currently has Athena Swan bronze status and is preparing an application for Silver status.
