In the lead up to LSTM's 125th anniversary we will hold annual 'Future Focus' events to discuss, debate and hear from experts on a range of potential future global health and humanitarian crises.
For our inaugural event we will hear from Dr David Nabarro CBE about his work on transforming food systems and action on climate change at LSTM's prestigious Leverhulme Lecture.
Professional Liverpool Board Member, Paul Furlong will host a session 'In conversation with LSTM Director, Professor David Lalloo' where you'll have the opportunity to find out what goes on behind the scenes at the school, the relevance of our global work in Liverpool and hear about our plans for the future.
LSTM Professor Bertie Squire, TB Nurse Specialist Lead Ms Heather Toner and stundent Ms Fatima Karmadwala will discuss global and local access to TB healthcare and we will open the day with our 120th Annual General Meeting.

Fatima and Heather will speak about the hurdles she had to overcome in hte process of diagnosis and treatment of TB, which later turned into MDR-TB. Amina Farah will take part in a Q&A session with the audience.

Bertie will speak about LSTM's collaborative work in lower & middle income countries and outline the hurdles people have to overcome to access TB diagnosis, treatment, care and cure. He will highlight how this experience has informed the conduct of the North West TB Cohort Audit, promoting quality of TB care in Liverpool and the Northwest of England.

18:30 LSTM Leverhulme Lecture - Dr David Nabarro CBE on 'Engaging in complex issues to secure the future'
Dr David Nabarro will describe his work within the United Nations system contributing to equity, health and well-being of people and planet between 1999 and 2017. He will analyse his experiences with engaging in issues that are complex and politically contested, with connecting different actors and with drawing on their varying mandates & motives. He will draw examples from his responsibilities when co-ordinating efforts on malaria, health emergencies, food security, nutrition, Ebola virus disease, cholera in Haiti, sustainable development and climate change. He will analyse his efforts to ensure that his work contributes to people being better able to secure their future through having opportunities to maintain their health and being better able to access care.
Dr Nabarro will apply the five principles from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in his analysis:
a) people-centred action with no-one left behind
b) interconnectedness of issues
c) universality of outcomes
d) integrated action
e) partnering
