LSTM has introduced a new research management system to support internal research management. Designed byAVEDAS, an IT innovation management company , CONVERIS supports researchers and organisations through the complete research lifecycle, from initial project idea to the exploitation of results generated by related research activities. Making it easier to to analyse and present research achievements and performance.
In a climate of increased competition for less funding available for the administration of research programmes, organisations are increasingly expected to demonstrate value for money. Resulting in the emergence of new technology and systems to bring together information from multiple sources and capable of managing complex information flows.
CONVERIS provides information on current funding opportunities, contract and agreement management, ethics management, clinical records, PhD studentship records, and manages the grant application process, from intention to submit to reporting. Enhancing the quality, accuracy and availability of research information, positively impacting on the quality of research performance reporting. Staff are able to quickly and easily search ongoing and past research when designing their own projects, improving institutional knowledge from previous work and increase networking between academic groups.
The system will serve as a primary source of data to allow senior staff to report on research activity and grant success rates. To enhance these functions CONVERIS has been integrated with LSTM’s business intelligence tool Cognos for reporting purposes. To improve internal communications, project partners and stakeholders can be granted access, via a secure login, to certain project-based information.
In CONVERIS the key information on project applications and awards is kept in one place and provides access to all parties involved. This reduces the risk for information getting lost in emails or documents being held on an individual’s computer. Acting as a central communication tool, information is available to all users.
LSTM is one of only 70 institutions worldwide to use this cutting edge system, demonstrating a clear commitment to the importance of research management to support LSTM’s work in disease endemic countries, where LSTM staff, deliver interventions to improve human health.
