Vector control at a crossroads: policy and implementation

Vector-borne diseases continue to exert a massive burden worldwide, with vector control being the principal weapon we have available to combat these diseases.  Given that progress against malaria is stalling and we are seeing more regular outbreaks of Aedes-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya, there is an urgent need to strengthen vector control. The presentation will outline the vector control policy framework, highlight some of the challenges facing vector control and suggest how to make vector control more effective and sustainable.

Dr Anne Wilson recently joined LSTM as a Lecturer in Epidemiology. Her research is on development of new tools and approaches for vector control. She has a PhD from Durham University and MSc from LSHTM.
