The British Society for Parasitology (BSP) held its Autumn Symposium at the University of Liverpool’s Foresight Centre, organised this year by LSTM’s Dr Alvaro Acosta Serrano.
The theme of the 2018 Autumn Symposium is Parasite Glycobiology. This exciting one-day symposium will bring together leading expertise to discuss cutting-edge aspects of parasite glycobiology, including evolution of glycosylation pathways, structure and biosynthesis parasite glycoconjugates, disease biomarkers and other translational applications.
Dr Acosta Serrano welcomed the delegates to the centre at the start of the programme, which also included talks from several members of LSTM. Professor Richard Pleass spoke about his work looking at glycan engineering of antibodies for therapeutic and vaccine applications, while Pamela Bongkiyung, Helen Price and Dr Adam Roberts provided an insight into using social media to communication scientific ideas to a wider audience.

LSTM has always had a really strong relationship with the BSP, and our staff and students gain a great deal through their membership. It was a fantastic opportunity for people to keep up to date with the latest advances in the field of parasite glycobiology and share their experiences of excellence in research and best practice.”
