Indian delegation visits CMNH

Delegates from India visited LSTM’s Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health, (CMNH), last week to meet with UK facilitators and CMNH staff and take part in an orientation workshop about the implementation of skills laboratories in India as part of the second phase of Making it Happen.

The workshop, which was held in LSTM over three days between 7th and 9th May, was an opportunity to review the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn & Child Health and Adolescent, (RMNCH+A), curriculum developed by the Government of India.

Four delegates from India attended – Dr Dinesh Baswal (Government of India), Dr Pratima Mittal (Safdurjung Hospital, New Delhi), Dr Manju Chhugani (Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi) and Dr Elisabeth Serle (Serenga Hospital, West Bengal) and they worked alongside CMNH staff and 21 facilitators from various parts of the UK. The UK facilitators will assist with teaching the RMNCH+A curriculum in New Delhi later in 2014 to a range of health care providers.

Making it Happen is a programme in 11 countries which utilising the skills of UK trained volunteer midwives and obstetricians who act as facilitators in training health professionals in country. The programme’s aim is to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity by increasing the availability and quality of Skilled birth attendance (SBA) and Emergency Onstetric Care and Newborn Care (EOC&NC).
