A Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine-led radio segment involving researchers across LSTM, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and the University of Liverpool will take place every Friday morning on BBC Radio Merseyside at 8:50am.
SciFri will begin on Friday 8th September with Professor Serge Wich from LJMU introducing drone technologies and how drones are being used to protect endangered animal species worldwide.
Listen to Tony Snell, and staff members from LSTM, discussing exciting topics such as antimicrobial resistance, vector biology and diagnostics for BBC Radio Merseyside listeners. Vector Biology’s Dr Lee Haines will be featuring on SciFri on the 15th September, with Dr Adam Roberts highlighting the current crisis of antimicrobial resistance on the 13th October.
Over the course of SciFri, Tony Snell will also introduce LSTM’s Dr Nick Casewell, Dr Justin Pulford, Dr Daniela Ferreira, Dr Emily Adams and Dr Tom Fletcher to Radio Merseyside listeners.
LSTM’s Dr Lee Haines is looking forward to taking part, she said: “This new and exciting BBC Merseyside initiative gives scientists a unique opportunity to engage with the public. I think it is fantastic that people in Liverpool are interested in learning about the research projects happening on their doorstep and I am delighted to share my experiences and perspectives with listeners.”
LSTM’s Public Engagement Manager Dr Elli Wright continued: “SciFri will delve into the scientific topics that are being explored by scientists within our great city, and highlight to the listeners that these subjects are interesting and accessible, but also relevant, to them. Locally, Radio Merseyside has a long history of being open and welcoming, and so it has been wonderful to work with Radio Merseyside to make our research more accessible to others.”
