The Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health has recently completed the final evaluation for the Comic Relief funded project ‘Improving the health of pregnant women and children in Malawi’.
Women and Children First and its local partner, the Perinatal Care Project of Ministry of Health Malawi, were ‘extremely satisfied’ with the assignment. They state in a letter of reference to CMNH that they ‘would not hesitate to engage the CMNH for future assignments and would recommend its work to others’.
The project was implemented in Ntcheu District, Malawi between 2010 and 2015. The project sought to improve the health and reduce mortality of women and children in the District through a range of community-based interventions in a project population of approximately 80,000 people from 144 villages. It also implemented a range of facility-based interventions in 14 health facilities serving the populations.
The end line evaluation was undertaken by CMNH, to assess the impact of project activities on key maternal and child outcomes in Ntcheu District and to explain how the project has made a difference to mother and child health, care-seeking behaviour and service quality and accessibility in the District.
