LSTM’s Dr John Dusabe-Richards has been given a Frontiers Innovator Award by the Wellcome Trust.

The award was presented following his attendance at the Wellcome Trust Frontiers meeting ‘Digital Phenotypes – Health research in the digital age?’ The meeting saw researchers in the first 10 years of their careers invited to apply to attend to look at how the Wellcome Trust might support the future use of digital phenotypes in biomedical and health-related research.

The meeting looked at the potential of capturing health information outside normal healthcare settings through the use of new digital platforms including apps, websites, wearables and social media. It brought together early career researchers and representatives from other interested groups including patients, investors, clinicians, technology and telecommunications experts and members of the pharmaceutical industry.

John was delighted to be one of seven researchers selected to attend. He said: “It was a great honour to be involved in such a prestigious meeting and talk about the research that I have been undertaking at LSTM. We were able to make our voices heard and influence people who are in the position to enable real change in this field of research and intervention. The Frontiers Innovator Award was given in recognition of the effort put into the meeting in helping to inform the Wellcome Trust’s future strategy and activity in the area.”
