Welcome to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine; I hope that this website gives you a sense of the exciting activities and research that we undertake and the opportunities for working and studying at LSTM.
LSTM is a centre of excellence in research and postgraduate teaching in the field of tropical medicine. It is the oldest institution of its kind in the world and has been at the forefront of training leaders in global health since 1898. As we move towards our 125th anniversary in 2023, we will continue to focus on providing high quality scientific evidence and translating our scientific discovery into policies and practices. We do that by working collaboratively in over 70 countries to fulfil our mission of improving the health of the world’s poorest people.
Our multidisciplinary approach to global health research allows us to translate research innovation and scientific breakthroughs from laboratory research into effective interventions for those most in need, working in partnership with researchers and academic organisations in Low and Middle Income Countries. LSTM Group income now exceeds £500 million and our research portfolio, staff numbers and estate continue to grow, whilst maintaining a debt free status.
We intend to remain at the cutting edge of innovation in research and intervention by attracting the best researchers from around the world to address some of the biggest problems in global health today and to attempt to break the cycle of poor health and poverty. Providing unrivalled, relevant, learning opportunities to students within the UK and across the world is also key, offering students the opportunity to excel in their careers in public health, medicine and academia and to set them on their paths to be global health leaders.
I do hope that you will enjoy finding out more about who we are and how we work to help save lives in resource poor settings. Please contact us directly in case you need more information.
