Pauline first joined the school in 1991 where she worked for 4 years as a technician in the Department of Medical Entomology maintaining Sandfly colonies. In 1999 she graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a BSc (hons) in Applied Biology. She worked as a Research Technician from 2000 – 2004 in the Genetics Department at The University of Liverpool working on a Wellcome Trust Host Pathogen Project. The aim of the project was to identify the genes which control resistance to the parasite Trypanosoma congolense in both mice and cattle. I also worked on the screening of bank voles and wood voles for trypanosomes and leishmaniasis resistance by PCR.
She returned to the school in 2007 working as a Research Technician for Mark Taylor in the A-WOL consortium with responsibility for the running and resourcing of the Filariasis Research Laboratory. She contributed to the molecular and parasitological experimental activities including evaluation of drug screening and maintenance of parasite life cycles and vector mosquito colonies before joining Vector Biology in 2010 and was one of the original members of LITE when it formed in 2011 where she is still employed.
She spent 5 weeks in Sierra Leonne working as a lab technician testing for Ebola in 2015.
