I am Yusupha Sanyang a Lecturer at the University of Gambia. Before joining the academic area, I worked across the various levels of the healthcare system in the Gambia for almost 20 years. My initial specialism was in registered general nursing, and later in community health nursing.
My PhD is in global health and my current research work focuses on adolescent sexual and reproductive health (SRH). My area of interest is the Accessibility and Quality of Sexual and Reproductive Health services for adolescents in the Gambia.
Adolescent sexual and reproductive health is one of the major contributors to the global burden of sexual and reproductive health problems. This is because they are more likely to engage in high-risk sexual behaviours as well as faced multiple barriers to access to SRH services. Access to quality sexual and reproductive health services is important in reducing the burden of SRH problems, especially for those in sub-Saharan Africa.
My research aims to explore the SRH needs, access and quality of SRH services for adolescents and to what extent the services are designed to meet the needs of adolescents. The findings from this study will inform policymakers and future interventions to improve the provision of appropriate and targeted SRH services for adolescents in the Gambia.
My research is sponsored by The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.
