Dr Maya Goodfellow is a writer, broadcaster and academic. She is the author of Hostile Environment: How Immigrants Became Scapegoats, which is out with Verso Books.
She recently completed a PhD at SOAS, University of London, where she also taught on a range of courses in the Development Studies and Politics departments. Her thesis focussed on race and processes of racialisation in UK international development discourse, 1997-2017.
She is currently working as the research assistant to Decolonising SOAS. Prior to beginning her PhD, she worked as a staff writer for ‘LabourList’, where she covered the 2015 election and the leadership election that followed.
Dr Maya Goodfellow's work mostly focuses on race, immigration, and gender in the UK. She has written for a number of publications including the New York Times, Guardian, the New Statesman and Vox.
