Microbial Symbionts for control of mosquito-borne disease

Grant L. Hughes, PhD
Department of Pathology, University of Texas, Medical Branch

Grant Hughes is interested in microbe-Insect interactions.

Much of his work has focused on examining these interactions in vectors, be that agricultural or vectors of human pathogens. He has worked on viral, bacterial and fungal microbes which infect insects that transmit viruses or apicomplexan parasites. Knowledge gained from studying these interactions may be used to develop novel biocontrol strategies for arthropod-borne disease.
