LSTM’s Drs Nick Beeching and Tom Fletcher have updated their open access BMJ Best Practice monograph on Ebola, bringing forward the annual update to include the current outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dr Beeching, Senior Clinical Lecturer at LSTM and Honorary Consultant in Infectious Diseases at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, has been the lead author on the monograph since the first edition was published in response to the 2014 outbreak in West Africa. He said: “The Ebola virus continues to cause problems and there is international concern about the current outbreak in the DRC. The monograph was updated several times as the understanding of the West African outbreak evolved and has been updated again this week to support responses to the ongoing situation in the DRC.”

The BMJ Best Practice monograph on Ebola was made available in both North American and Rest of the World formats in 2014. This updated version was authored by Dr Nick Beeching and Dr Tom Fletcher from LSTM, together with Manuel Fenech, formerly from the Tropical and Infectious Disease Unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Dr Catherine Houlihan from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). It combines substantial hands-on experience from clinicians at both LSTM and LSHTM with a practical and thorough review of Ebola and links to contemporary guidelines. An abbreviated open access version was published in the BMJ in 2014 and is still available here.
