This weekend saw Liverpool’s World Museum hosting a special event entitled Marvellous Medicine devised by the University of Liverpool as part of their Meet the Scientists program.  It was supported by staff from LSTM’s Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health (CMNH).

Marvellous Medicine featured a number of interactive activities, with scientists on hand to demonstrate what medicines are and how they might be developed in the future. CMNH’s Juliet Relihan and Terry Kana supported and ran activities, in particular they exhibited some of the work of CMNH and the history behind modern midwifery practices for children and visitors of all ages.  Overall, more than 500 people visited the Marvellous Medicine exhibition throughout the day.

Juliet and Terry, both members of LSTM’s STEM ambassador’s team, found the day very enjoyable and were delighted with the response from the public. Terry said: “We were busy throughout the day and it gave us an opportunity to explain a little more about the role that LSTM is playing in improving maternal and newborn health throughout the world.”

This event was part of LSTM’s public engagement strategy. If any other organisation is interested in working with LSTM in public engagement events, please contact Public Engagement Manager Elli Wright.
