It is very good news that the HEART partners, including LSTM, have been chosen to implement the DFID Health, Nutrition and Education Professional Evidence and Applied Knowledge Services (PEAKS). This is a global service principally for DFID Advisers to provide knowledge services and call down consulting. The initial contract is for 2 years with the potential for two extensions of 1 year each.

The knowledge (referred to as “core”) services will be managed by IDS (University of Sussex) and the consulting service by Oxford Policy Management (OPM). LSTM is primarily involved with the core services but will also be responding to call down requests relevant to the wide range of expertise at the School. Mike Naylor of OPM will be the initial Chairman of the Partner Group and Project Director.

The HEART (Health and Education Advice and Resource Team) partners are OPM (lead), IDS, CfBT, HERA, Nuffield Centre Leeds, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, IPACT at Aberdeen University, and FHI360. It thus includes a wide scope of health, nutrition and education expertise strengthened by combined global networks and a combination of academic and consulting competencies.

HEART will replace the current DFID Human Development Resource Centre: http://hdrc.dfid.gov.uk/
