Dr Tiago Antão, a Sir Henry Wellcome Research Fellow at LSTM has had a new book, Bioinformatics with Python Cookbook, published.
A bioinformatician, currently studying the genomics of the main malaria vector, the mosquito Anopheles gambiae, Dr Antão was originally a computer scientist who crossed over to computational biology. After being awarded his PhD at LSTM he went on to work at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, before returning to LSTM and holding a prestigious Sir Henry Wellcome Research Fellowship.
Previously Dr Antão has co-authored Biopython, a major bioinformatics package written in Python, a widely used high level programme language. This latest publication will enable the reader to learn how to use modern Python bioinformatics libraries and applications to do cutting-edge research in computational biology, focussing on the most modern tools to do research with next generation sequencing, genomics, population genetics, phylogenomics, and proteomics.
Dr Antão said: “The book uses real world examples to illustrate how to handle next generation sequencing data. It focuses on the practical application of bioinformatics while covering modern programming techniques and frameworks to deal with the ever increasing deluge of bioinformatics data.”
