During September we held meetings in Same, Moshi, Monduli and Babati Districts of Tanzania with livestock officers to provide information on RVFV and our project.
We also obtained information from livestock officers in each district on areas where we might find mosquitoes persisting in the dry season, particularly where there were large irrigation schemes and watering points where livestock are most likely to come into contact with mosquitoes. We are now combining this local-level knowledge with remotely-sensed data to help guide mosquito surveillance next year.
We also held a national-level meeting to inform government about our project and how our project outputs may feed into policy on RVFV surveillance and control in Tanzania. We hope to contribute to developing an updated action plan using the FAO guidance published year.
