Angus attended the University of Liverpool School of Medicine from 2014 to 2020. In 2018/19, he took a year away from clinical training to complete an intercalated MSc in Biology and Control of Parasites and Disease Vectors at LSTM, where he became involved with schistosomiasis research in Malawi.
Following graduation from medical school in 2020, Angus joined Hull University Teaching Hospitals as an Academic Foundation Doctor. Alongside clinical work including rotations at the specialist Infectious Diseases unit in Hull, Angus led a pilot study for geographically targeted chronic hepatitis B screening, funded by the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Small Grants Programme.
In 2022, Angus was awarded a Medical Research Council Doctoral Training Partnership PhD scholarship based at LSTM. He also continues to practise in general internal medicine at Liverpool University Hospitals.
Angus's research interest lies in the epidemiology and control of communicable diseases in underserved populations. Supervised primarily by Dr Adam Roberts and also working with the Hybridisation in UroGenital Schistosomiasis (HUGS) team at LSTM, Angus's PhD research will focus on infection and environmental dynamics of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and intestinal schistosomiasis in Malawi.
