LSTM is one of Liverpool’s great institutions. We are proud to be the oldest organisation in the world dedicated to research and education in tropical medicine; we have a history of achievement that is underpinned by charitable support. Remembering us in your will is a simple gesture that makes a big impact on our research and work in saving lives.
Founded by the shipping magnates whose work so dramatically shaped the history of Liverpool, donations of all sizes have continued to support our development into a world-leading institution, dedicated to breaking the cycle of poor health and poverty.
Health inequality is one of the major, unjust and avoidable issues facing the world today. Some of the world’s most devastating diseases mainly affect the poorest and most vulnerable people.
According to the World Health Organization, 21,000 children die before their fifth birthday every day. Developing countries account for 99% of annual maternal deaths in the world, and around 95% of TB deaths. More than one billion people worldwide are affected by neglected tropical diseases.
The reason for these issues are complex. We take a whole-picture view on global health issues, and work to develop genuine, long-term solutions to save lives in the world's poorest communities. We work in the field, often in challenging and sometimes dangerous circumstances, to bring our expertise to the people who need it most.
Donations to LSTM are helping us to educate and train the next generation of scientists and health professionals. Our research looks to tackle some of the world's most deadly diseases. Funding is the main barrier to students and researchers being able to study with LSTM, but the opportunity to study or work with us can be life-changing for them and their communities.
Help us break the cycle of poor health and poverty by remembering LSTM in your Will.
