Dr Nara Tagiyeva-Milne is a Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology and a Programme Director for the Master of Public Health International (MPHI), at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) Department of Education. Since joining the School in 2019, Nara has been instrumental in shaping public health education at LSTM.
In addition to her role as Programme Director, Nara leads on-campus and online modules, including Research Methods, Epidemiology & Statistics, and the Research Project, supervises MSc and PhD dissertations, and provides mentorship to ECRs. She has experience in teaching 'Critical Appraisal and Systematic Reviews' on the Diploma in Tropical Hygiene and Medicine.
With a PhD in Environmental Medicine from the University of Aberdeen, Fellowships with the Higher Education Academy and the Royal Society for Public Health, and Memberships of The International Society of Global Health and The External Examiners’ Community of Practice, Nara brings a wealth of expertise to her role. She has an established track record of securing funding, publications in high-impact journals, and methodological strengths in evidence synthesis, systematic reviews, and quantitative research.
Furthermore, Nara sits on the LSTM Research Ethics Committee and Sustainability and Environment Committee. She also plays a crucial role as a key member of Working Group 5 within the multidisciplinary Euro-CAN (Multi-Sectoral Responses to Child Abuse and Neglect in Europe) Action network funded by the European Cooperation on Science and Technology (COST). In this capacity, Nara provides methodological expertise in synthesising evidence on child maltreatment in Europe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Ulugbek Nurmatov is a Senior Research Fellow and Postgraduate Taught Lead at Cardiff University, Wales, UK. Originally trained as a clinician, Dr Nurmatov has over 35 years of experience holding various roles within medicine, public health, academia, and research, including more than nine years as a Clinical Research Fellow and Course Director at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.
Dr Nurmatov holds MD, PhD, MSc, MPH, and MBA degrees and has a strong background and keen interest in teaching and research, specialising in Evidence-Based Medicine, Evidence-Based Practice, and Evidence-Informed Policy Making.
With an impressive h-index of 38, Dr Nurmatov has conducted high-quality research on diverse topics. As a member of the Expert Panel of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), he actively contributes to the development of several European and International Clinical Practice Guidelines. He has published over 130 papers, guidelines, and approximately 100 complex Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, including eight Cochrane Systematic Reviews, in high-impact journals.
Dr Nurmatov's current research interest focuses on Health and Social Care. He is actively involved in conducting Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses on Children’s Social Care, funded by The What Works Centre for Children’s Social Care, Department of Education, England, UK. At the international level, he has successfully coordinated European collaboration activities on Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN), bringing together health and social care professionals, academicians, researchers, and policymakers from four European countries (the UK, the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland, and Sweden). Additionally, Dr Nurmatov represents the UK in the COST ACTION European Cooperation in Science & Technology CA19106 “Multi-Sectoral Responses to Child Abuse and Neglect in Europe: Incidence and Trends” and has organised numerous national and international workshops and seminars on child maltreatment.
