Sammy Obabo's pursuit of higher education at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is driven by a passion for research and a strong commitment to improving public health, especially in the field of sexual and reproductive health.
After completing his BScN studies, he embarked on a career in research, working at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and studying sexual and reproductive health in Sweden. His dedication to coordinating a study on HIV antiretroviral treatment in the community further reinforced his commitment to research and leadership in public health.
Sammy aspires to play a pivotal role in enhancing the health and well-being of women and children in his community. He aims to be in a management position where he can implement non-complied health policies for the betterment of his community and nation. Throughout his career, he has been motivated by the need for improved access to expertise and resources, and he sees ongoing education as a means to achieve these goals.
Receiving the LSTM-Directors' Anniversary 125 Excellence Scholarship holds great personal and academic significance for Sammy. The International Master of Public Health (Sexual and Reproductive Health) program at LSTM aligns perfectly with his professional goals and will provide him with the ideal platform to advance his career. Sammy envisions that his studies at LSTM will equip him with the necessary skills and knowledge to make a difference in Africa, particularly in the field of public health. He is keen to work with international NGOs to support his ambitions of giving back to communities and changing lives. His long-term vision is to become one of the top social scientists and researchers in Kenya, with the goal of supporting other professionals in addressing public and reproductive health challenges across Africa.
