Leton Kobani's decision to pursue a Master's in Public Health (International) at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is driven by her strong belief in the principles of public health, which focus on improving health and achieving equity for populations beyond national borders.
She is motivated by the opportunity to address the social, economic, and environmental determinants of health, as these align with her career goals. She also chose LSTM due to its renowned reputation, research and teaching excellence, and high graduate employability rate.
Leton aspires to become a leader in the field of Public Health (International) and work with international organisations and governments to enhance health outcomes and health equity on a global scale. The program's emphasis on evidence-based practice, health equity in low-resource areas, a multidisciplinary approach, as well as training in epidemiology, qualitative health research, statistics, and public health leadership, will provide her with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve his career objectives.
Receiving the Mamco Selab Scholarship holds great personal and academic significance for Leton. It provides her with the financial support required to complete her education without the burden of financial constraints. This enables her to fully dedicate his energy and resources to her studies and professional development, rather than worrying about making ends meet.
Leton envisions that her studies at LSTM will equip her with specialised skills that will enable her to have a transformative impact on global health and well-being. These skills will empower her to address the health needs of vulnerable and marginalised populations, particularly those in low- and middle-income countries. Furthermore, she anticipates addressing transnational health issues such as the spread of infectious diseases and the impact of climate change on health.
