Jordan White

Scholarship: 125 Directors Excellence Award.

Programme: MSc Tropical Disease Biology, 2024.

Jordan White's motivation to pursue higher education at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine stems from his passion for sharing knowledge and a desire to help those in need.

During his undergraduate studies, he found great satisfaction in helping fellow students understand complex concepts and later through placements in the NHS, where he furthered his knowledge and aided patients. After completing his degree, he realissed his love for learning and sought a structured learning plan to expand his knowledge. Upon learning about LSTM's commitment to helping disadvantaged communities and their dedication to producing high-quality scientific studies, he knew LSTM was the ideal university to continue his education and become a lifelong alumnus.

Jordan aspires to pursue a graduate-entry medicine degree after completing his current studies. He aims to integrate his efforts in helping patients and learning life-saving procedures into his medical career. He is enthusiastic about the challenges of this degree and sees it as a seamless alignment with his values of helping others. With the connections he will develop at LSTM, he also envisions traveling internationally to provide assistance to individuals in need.

Receiving the 125 Directors Excellence Award holds immense personal and academic significance for Jordan. This award marks a pivotal achievement in his academic journey, and he is honoured and grateful to receive it. Jordan anticipates building lifelong friendships at LSTM, and the award has both personal and academic importance. It is a symbol of recognition for his passion for education, which has grown since his time at university. It sends a powerful message that it's never too late to develop a passion for education, regardless of school leaving qualifications. The values of LSTM, providing education to those who may not have the means to obtain it themselves, resonate deeply with him.

Jordan is eager to complete his MRes degree at LSTM and has a provisional title for his research. He looks forward to publishing his research not only for the scientific community but with the hope that it will have a global impact on those who need it the most. His dedication to education and research aligns with LSTM's mission to help disadvantaged communities and contribute to global health.

Jordan extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the decision-making process for awarding him the 125 Directors Excellence Award. He deeply appreciates the significance of this award and is eager to use it as an opportunity to prove that regardless of initial school qualifications, there is always a path into science, education, and healthcare.
