Founders' Circle
Philanthropy played an important role in the creation of LSTM. Philanthropic gifts founded the institution and donations continue to fund our students, facilities, and research.
Leave your mark on the future of global health by following in the footsteps of our founding donors by joining LSTM's Founders' Circle.
Our 125th Anniversary Campaign, in 2023, provides an opportunity to reflect and build on the experience of our history but also gives an opportunity to consider the role of LSTM, and its partners, in addressing the challenges facing humanity in the next 125 years.
In 2021, thousands of people came together to support our Bump it Forward campaign to raise funds to protect frontine heatlh workers in Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. LSTM's Founders' Cirlce will support our 125 Campaign by building capacity and support healthcare workers to be responsive to local health priorities.
Built on philanthropy
Almost 125 years ago, Sir Alfred Lewis Jones, who made significant profits from various European countries' colonial exploitations, made the first donation to establish LSTM, encouraging others to join him.
We have introduced the Founders' Circle so that today’s philanthropists can continue to support our work to change lives, to make a difference in global health, and to improve the health outcomes for millions around the world.
Joining the Founders’ Circle, you become part of an exclusive community of 125 founding supporters who have made a gift of £1,000* or more.
*Gifts of £1,000 can be given in one or multiple installments.

Tax effective giving
As a registered charity all donations to LSTM can be tax efficient, significantly increasing the value of your gift, at no extra cost to you.
This table gives examples – please speak to us for more details: fundraising@lstmed.ac.uk
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that enables LSTM to claim tax relief on donations from UK taxpayers. We would encourage all eligible donors to take up this scheme to maximise their donation. For every £1 a UK taxpayer donates, 25p in reclaimed tax is added. This means that a £100 gift with Gift Aid is worth £125 to LSTM.
Please note that we will share relevant and necessary data with HM Revenue and Customs to enable us to reclaim the Gift Aid on your donation.
