She began her career at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka Zambia, where she trained as a Specialist in Paediatrics and Child Health and obtained her Master of Medicine degree. This solid foundation, coupled with her passion for improving child health in low-income countries, led her to pursue further education and training.
Her passion for improving child health in low-income countries took her to new heights when she received a prestigious Thomas Mark Scholarship to study at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). At LSTM, she deepened her understanding of tropical paediatrics and gained specialist training in child growth monitoring, infant and young child feeding, and Paediatric HIV and TB management. This rigorous coursework helped her to develop new skills, increase her confidence, and make a lasting impact on her community.
During her time at LSTM, Dr. Musonda had the opportunity to study with students from all over the world, creating a diverse and enriching learning environment. She relished the chance to learn from and connect with students from diverse backgrounds, sharing ideas and perspectives and building lasting relationships. This intercultural exchange was a highlight of her time at LSTM and helped to shape her as a practitioner and person.
Dr. Musonda's education and training have been instrumental in her career journey. After 10 years of working at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka Zambia, she moved on to the Centre for Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), where she served as a Clinical Care Specialist in Paediatric HIV on the Paediatric HIV program. With her wealth of experience and expertise, she was able to make a positive impact on the lives of children and families.
Today, Dr. Musonda works as a Paediatrician in private practice at Pendleton Family Practice, where she continues to provide excellent care to her patients. She is a true advocate for the transformative power of education and the difference it can make in the lives of individuals and communities. If Dr. Musonda could offer advice to prospective students, she would encourage them to take advantage of every learning opportunity, ask as many questions as possible, and strive to make the most of their time at LSTM. Her inspiring story is a testament to the power of education and the impact one person can have on the world.
