Chevening Scholarships at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

A Global Network of Future Leaders 

Chevening Scholarships have been running for over 40 years with an alumni exceeding 57,000 students. Chevening annually supports over 1,200 scholars from more than 140 countries ensuring the scholarships recruit the best international students who can contribute leadership and innovation to their home countries upon graduation.  

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisationsThe scholarships support postgraduate students who can demonstrate the potential to become future leaders, decision makers and influencers in their chosen field, ensuring a transformative UK study experience which promises academic excellence and the skills and knowledge to return to their home countries as global leaders.  

LSTM has benefitted from over 45 Chevening Scholarships over the past seven yearsand we have a number of notable alumni including Ogunlade Olawale and Miguel ManuelDorotan.  

 

To be eligible for a Chevening scholarship, applicants must: 

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory 

  • Return to their home country for a minimum of two years after the award has ended 

  • Be applying for a Master’s degree, not a research degree (MRes or MPhil). 

  • Be applying for full-time study. The course must last between nine and12 months and part-time programmes are not eligible.  

  • Apply for a course which is taught in the UK, not distance learning or hybrid.  

  • Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time they submittheir application.  

  • Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience. 

  • Apply for three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices.  

 

Timeline for applying for a Chevening Scholarship 

  • 6 August 2024 – Scholarship applications open for 2025 entry 

  • 5 November 2024 – Scholarship applications close for 2025 entry 

  • February 2025 – Applicants shortlisted for interview 

  • Late February 2025References and education documents deadline 

  • Late February – late April 2025 – Interviews take place 

  • June 2025 – Results 

  • July 2025 – Offer deadline  

  • September 2025 – Studies begin
