LSTM staff receive Business of the Year Award

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine took home the prize for Business of the Year (over 30 employees) at the Innovation in Business Awards 2023, hosted by Liverpool Chamber of Commerce.

The awards celebrate the achievements of exciting start-ups and established institutions in the Liverpool City Region, with winners decided by an equal split of an expert judging panel and public vote.

The Business of the Year Award is special recognition for LSTM in its 125th anniversary year, and follows on from being named as the Chamber’s Charity of the Year for 2022/23.

LSTM was also shortlisted for the Community Impact Award for the Vaccine Equity Project – a successful community-led programme to overcome barriers to COVID-19 vaccine uptake.

Winners were announced at a special awards ceremony at St George’s Hall on Thursday.

Dean for Research Culture and Integrity Professor Hilary Ranson, Senior Community Mobiliser Amina Ismail and Alumni and Donor Relations Officer James McMahon collected the award on behalf of LSTM.

Professor Ranson said: “We are thrilled to be named as the Chamber’s large Business of the Year, and especially so during such a significant year in our history. I would like to pay special thanks to all those who voted for us. LSTM is proud to play our part in driving local innovation through our research partnerships and industry engagement, so to be celebrated in this way by Liverpool’s business community is a real honour.”

Paul Cherpeau, chief executive of Liverpool Chamber, said: “Innovation is at the heart of all commercial success and, as this year’s awards demonstrate, it can be found in businesses of all shapes and sizes.

“There were high-calibre entries and worthy winners across every category and the evening was an excellent reminder of the spirit of resilience, creativity and foresight that embodies our city region’s business community.”
