Chevening Scholarshipsat LSTM

Chevening Scholarships have been running for over 40 years with an alumni exceeding 57,000 students.

Chevening annually supports over 1,200 scholars from more than 140 countries to study in the UK, ensuring the scholarships recruit the best international students who can contribute leadership and innovation to their home countries upon graduation.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. The scholarships support postgraduate students who can demonstrate the potential to become future leaders, decision makers and influencers in their chosen field, ensuring a transformative UK study experience which promises academic excellence and the skills and knowledge to return to their home countries as global leaders.

LSTM has benefitted from over 50 Chevening Scholarships over the past nine years and we have a number of notable alumni including Ogunlade Olawale and Miguel Manuel Dorotan.

To be eligible for a Chevening scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory
  • Return to their home country for a minimum of two years after the award has ended
  • Be applying for a master’s degree, not a research degree (PhD or MPhil).
  • Be applying for full-time study. The course must last between nine and 12 months. Part-time programmes are not eligible.
  • Be applying for a course which is taught in the UK, not distance learning or hybrid.
  • Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time they submit their application.
  • Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.
  • Apply for three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices.

Timeline for applying for a Chevening Scholarship

  • 4 August 2026 – Scholarship applications open for 2027 entry
  • 6 October 2026 – Scholarship applications close for 2027 entry
  • February 2027 – Applicants shortlisted for interview
  • February 2027 – References and education documents deadline
  • March – April 2027 – Interviews take place
  • June 2027 – Interview Results
  • 8 July 2027 – Offer deadline
  • September 2027 – Studies begin

Warda Ahmed on Chevening Scholarships

“My name is Warda Ahmed. I am a student here in LSTM. I am studying Masters in Public Health, Sexual Reproductive Health. When I found out in June last year, I was selected for Chevening scholarship, I was really over the moon. I felt like all my dreams were coming true, and I was really happy. Without a Chevening scholarship, it would have been a lot hard to stud in LSTM because I would not be able to afford the education here in the UK.

But I know many people who applied more than one time and the most important thing is to not give up and always improve your application. Even if you don’t get it the first time, you can always try to improve your application.

One of the advices I have for people who are interested to apply for Chevening scholarship is to be very clear and start early. When you’re writing these essays, think through them and also ask help from fellow Cheveners, people who won the scholarship and they can read your, essays and give you feedback.

That would really help a lot.”
