Biography
Richard is a postdoctoral research associate at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), working on the JPIAMR-funded STRESST project (Antimicrobial Stewardship in Hospitals, Resistance Selection and Transfer in a One Health Context). In this project, he specifically analyses the intracellular transposition of antimicrobial resistance genes from bacterial plasmids found in hospital wastewater.
He has also worked on the Fleming Fund Country Grants to Pakistan and Indonesia to build capacity in genomic surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
He has expertise in the intercellular and intracellular dynamics of mobile genetic element movement and associated AMR genes. He is interested in horizontal gene transfer, mobile genetic elements and how these phenomena disseminate antimicrobial resistance throughout bacterial populations. He also works in the areas of microbial genomics, metagenomics and bioinformatics.

Richard’s main research interests are genomics, bioinformatics, microbiology, and molecular biology.
