Biography
Nicole Page is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Vector Biology department at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), focussing on the development of tools for genetic control of mosquito vectors of disease. Following an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Bristol, she completed a masterβs degree at Imperial College London specialising in Applied Bioscience and Biotechnology. There she was introduced to mosquito genomics and stayed to complete a PhD working on engineering genetic control strategies such as gene drive for the malaria mosquito.
As a researcher co-investigator at LSTM she is looking to improve and engineer more efficient genetic control tools for mosquito vectors.
Research interests
Nicole’s research uses advances in synthetic and engineering biology to improve the functionality of tools for mosquito genetic control. She is using single-cell sequencing technologies to better understand the fine-tuned expression of genes within the mosquito germline and using this information to design better genetic components and target genes for CRISPR-based mosquito control strategies.Β
