Biography
Hafidz Firdaus trained as a medical doctor and holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from Universitas Gadjah Mada and a PhD in Health Science specialising in health economics from the University of Leeds. He specialises in health financing, health economics, and social health insurance, and has extensive experience conducting public health research in Indonesia. Currently, Hafidz is involved in coordinating a Medical Research Council-funded research study evaluating the pilot implementation of a new maternal health strategy – intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy using dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine – by the Ministry of Health. This work includes conducting a health economic evaluation. Additionally, as a clinical postdoctoral researcher, Hafidz contributes to a MultiLink Consortium project, focusing on multimorbidity interventions in Tanzania and Malawi.
Research interests
In his research Hafidz primarily investigates the effectiveness of health financing strategies, particularly in low and middle-income settings. He focuses on evaluating the impacts of social health insurance schemes on healthcare accessibility, affordability, and equity. Through quantitative analyses, qualitative studies, and economic evaluations, he aims to inform evidence-based policies that strengthen health system resilience and financial sustainability.Â
Teaching
Hafidz’s teaching centres on health financing, and economic evaluation in health economics modul at the postgraduate level.
