Dr. David Ishola

Biography
David Ishola combines teaching at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) with NHS public health service work.
He completed his medical training in Nigeria at Obafemi Awolowo University) before specialising in internal medicine as a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians and in public health medicine as a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health in the UK. David has worked as a specialist with Public Health England and currently works with Public Health Wales.
He obtained his PhD at Utrecht University and completed postdoctoral research at University College London as a National Institute for Health and Care Research lecturer. David gained a National Institute for Health and Care Research postdoctoral fellowship award while based at University College London and Public Health England. He progressed to a Senior Lecturer post at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine before taking up his current position as Senior Lecturer at LSTM.
Research interests
David is interested in preventive public health interventions β with particular experience in vaccines, emerging infections, and clinical trials in the UK and sub-Saharan Africa (Ebola, influenza, meningococcal).
He is currently extending this preventive approach to two wider aspects of health systems research β controlling neglected tropical diseased and hazards, and improving public health workforce education and training.
Teaching
David is Co-Director of the LSTM Master of Public Health programme.

His teaching themes include global health security and health protection, improving health systems, and promoting health.

David supervises masterβs and PhD student projects, and coordinates NHS public health Registrar (specialist training) placements at LSTM.
