Miss Ashlee Braithwaite

Ashlee Braithwaite is a Research Technician in the Enzyme Characterisation Group within the Department of Vector Biology at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). She graduated from the University of Liverpool with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology in 2022. Before starting at LSTM, she worked in a United Kingdom Accreditation Service accredited lab using analytical techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography mass spectrometry, and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry for regulatory testing on vapes and e-cigarettes. Her current role at LSTM involves managing high-performance liquid chromatography analysis for the development of vector control products containing novel insecticides to target pyrethroid-resistant mosquito populations, therefore contributing directly to the front line of vector control.

Through the Innovative Vector Control Consortium, Ashlee works with partners in Tanzania, Cote d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso during field trials of new insecticide-treated nets to monitor their performance against resistant mosquito strains. She has also completed quality control analysis of indoor residual spraying in Uganda and Bolivia. Beyond her research, Ashlee is co-chair of LSTM’s technician committee, which aims to increase technician representation and opportunities within the institution.
