Dr Yvette Kazungu

Biography

Yvette Kazungu is a postdoctoral researcher in molecular virology with a background in ribonucleic acid virus-host interactions and cross-talks with innate immunity. More recently, her research focus has veered into translational virology research including in vivo work and drug screening against viruses of clinical importance.

This includes a recent collaborative project which tested small antiviral compounds against SARS-CoV-2 in a humanised mouse model and established the immunophenotype profiles after treatment.

In her current project, Yvette uses reverse genetics and large scale random codon re-encoding to attenuate viruses and profile the differences in immune responses to infection and interventions in vivo.
