Miss Heather Galloway

Biography

Heather Galloway is a Senior Laboratory Systems Associate with the Centre for Capacity Research at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). She works with partners across LSTM and externally to monitor, evaluate and strengthen laboratory capacity.

Heathers background is in biomedical sciences. She worked for five years as a Health and Care Professions Council registered specialist biomedical scientist in microbiology, before taking the role of Lead Laboratory Microbiologist at the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust. She also works in the Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory at LSTM and is skilled in specialised parasite diagnosis.

Research interests

Heather’s research interests focus on laboratory capacity strengthening.

 

Her work has spanned different sectors, including various One Health sectors (human, animal and aquaculture) and diagnostic or research fields (microbiology, antimicrobial resistance and zoonotic infectious diseases). She has worked with partners across Southeast Asia (Bangladesh, Indonesia and Pakistan) and Sub-Saharan Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Zambia) through collaborative partnerships and consultancy.

 

Heather has supported laboratories in areas ranging from the design and implementation of laboratory renovations in line with international biosafety standards to the development of National External Quality Assurance Schemes and strengthening quality management systems in line with ISO 15189 or 17025 standards.
