Rachel Tolhurst and Angela Obasi co-Chaired the Faculty Athena SWAN group in 2014-15. Both worked endlessly to ensure that all staff within the Faculty had the opportunity to convey their experiences of working in the faculty and attended numerous gender equality-related events, including for example the Athena SWAN ‘Researchers with Families working in the Tropics’ seminar (March 2016, University of Liverpool). The extensive activities they have engaged in, have resulted in the Athena SWAN team having access to a range of information they can use to further progress the Athena SWAN agenda within the Faculty. The team has devised a refreshed action plan which draws on all the hard work of Rachel and Angela, and includes further actions identified by recent consultation activities. Russell Dacombe now Chairs the Faculty Athena SWAN group, and members are from both our Departments: the Department of Clinical Sciences, and the Department of International Public Health.
