Background
Carole qualified in 2008 after attaining a first class Bachelor of Arts degree in Nursing (with Honours) from Liverpool John Moores University. Her first post was on a general medical ward within University Hospital Aintree. She then moved to an isolation unit where she took on additional roles as nurse lead for patient observations and falls link nurse. Carole qualified as a stage 2 mentor in 2011 after attending Edge Hill University, Lancashire.
Research
Carole joined the respiratory research group in April 2012. The ultimate aim is to develop an inhaled pneumococcal vaccine. Carole is currently working on the Experimental Human Pneumococcal Carriage study which offers a model of pneumococcal carriage which may be useful in future vaccine development. Carole will also be the lead research nurse for the HOME FIRST Pilot Study (HOME Followed-up with Infection Respiratory Support Team). This study aims to care for patients diagnosed with pneumonia in the community as an alternative to hospital care and will be commencing in Autumn 2012.
